During the production of coatings, in processes such as grinding, dispersion, and stirring, a large amount of foam is generated. If this foam is not eliminated in a timely manner, it will affect the quality of the coatings. For example, the foam will lead to an uneven density of the coating, causing surface defects such as pinholes and orange peel - like phenomena after the coating dries. Defoamers can quickly eliminate the foam, making the production process of the coatings more smooth and ensuring that the performance of the coatings, such as glossiness and adhesion, is not affected.
In some chemical synthesis reactions, such as polymerization reactions and esterification reactions, foam may appear due to factors such as the gas generated during the reaction or stirring. For example, in an emulsion polymerization reaction, the presence of an emulsifier makes the system prone to generating foam. The addition of a defoamer can prevent the accumulation of foam, avoid the spillage of materials in the reaction vessel, and also facilitate the normal progress of the reaction, improving the yield and purity of the product.
